Our Projects

Our Projects

In rural areas access to toilets saves time otherwise lost seeking secluded spots to defecate. It also alleviates the psychological burden of fear that plagues many of the women folk in the community. Saved time and the security of private surroundings allow to create a more progressive and healthy society.

Milaap Projects on Sanitation Solutions Milaap Projects on Sanitation Solutions

Our Projects

Are typically situated in densely populated areas, including urban slums with space constraints. Usually, a self-help group of 12 to 20 local women manages and maintains these facilities through a pay-per-use model. These community toilets improve the sanitation habits of the community and create jobs in maintenance and bookkeeping.

Milaap Projects on Waste Management

Our Projects

We promote the collection, segregation and recycling of waste in local communities. Some examples include conversion of organic waste into vermi-compost for sale to local farmers, recycling of plastic bags for commercial products, such as pellets and other allied products. This is a sustainable source of income and helps tackle the problem of excessive human waste.

Sanitation dramatically reduces cases of diarrhea, cholera, typhoid and worm infections, preserving human energy and reducing malnutrition and stunted growth. Besides latrines, simple hand-washing stations with appropriate sanitation training can greatly alleviate the world's disease burden, reducing water-related deaths by 45%.

Utilizing human excreta as a resource drives local economic development. Treated urine and faeces are excellent fertilizers that save energy and protect the world's finite reserves of phosphorous, which are being exhausted by artificial fertilizers. Also, Biogas is an excellent source of renewable energy, reducing our CO2 emissions.
