GRAVITY - Dharwad, Karnataka, India

GRAVITY

GRAVITY is a joint social venture between Grameen Koota and Vidya Poshak, a leading vocational training and skills development institute.

GRAVITY aims at building a robust and sustainable model of social empowerment through reduced unemployment. Grameen Koota, one of India's leading MFIs provides credit to dynamic youngsters for vocational training. They are trained in an array of fields, including Hospitality, Retail, BPO, Microfinance & Banking, Tailoring/Garments, and Healthcare by Vidya Poshak with 100% job assurance upon successful completion of the course.

The partnership aims to critically address some of the most pertinent social issues, including shortage of semi skilled manpower and unemployment amongst youth.

"Milaap has enabled trainees to procure collateral-free loans from us to cover the training fee of Rs 10,000 at a reduced 17% interest and a four-month moratorium during the training period. Together with Milaap, we plan on disbursing loans to over 500 students by April 2012 and also foray into loans for low-income micro-entrepreneurs running budget-neighbourhood schools, and playschools."
- Mr. Suresh K Krishna, MD, Grameen Financial Services
